Kelowna’s snow routes are in areas with elevated, steep and narrow roadways, or many cul-de-sacs. These factors make roadways in these areas difficult to clear. We temporarily ban on-street parking in snow route areas when significant snowfall (10 cm or more) is forecasted or underway – this is called a snow event advisory.
We keep Kelowna’s roadways clean by promptly removing litter and regularly sweeping streets.
A boulevard is the strip of land between your property boundary and the street. It may include a developed area with or without a sidewalk, or an undeveloped road shoulder next to your property.
Our Roadway Maintenance and Equipment group is responsible for the maintenance of 1,690 kilometres of roadway in Kelowna. Highway 97 (Harvey Avenue) and Highway 33 are maintained by the Provincial Ministry of Transportation & Infrastructure.
Road information is based on issued road usage permits. All public and private contractors are required to obtain a road usage permit for work affecting traffic flow. Click on a coloured line on the map for details about traffic impacts.
As the popularity of bicycling continues to grow in Kelowna, so does our network of bike lanes and paths. There are approximately 300 kilometres of on-street bike lanes and 40 km of separated paved multi-use paths. The Okanagan Rail Trail is one example of a paved multi-use pathway that provides a safe, accessible route.
