Project Overview:
The City of Kelowna is working on a series of urbanization investments to make Core Area neighbourhoods connected and safe for all users by construction new sidewalks where none exist, improving drainage with curb and gutter and adding trees to improve Kelowna’s green canopy. The projects are guided by policies within the 2040 Official Community Plan (OCP) and Transportation Master Plan (TMP). The cross-section design is consistent with the City’s Core Area Local Cross-section, as outlined in the City’s Subdivision and Servicing Bylaw. See image below for cross-section example.

Project Scope:
The existing cast iron watermain, prone to costly breaks, will be replaced with a new PVC main that will have service connections to each property. The roadway will also be urbanized, which includes a new storm water management system, curb and gutter, sidewalk, parallel parking, tree planting in boulevards, shared travel lane and undergrounding of overhead utilities.

Timeline:
Project is in design 2024 and is tentatively scheduled for construction in spring 2025.

Project Benefits:

  • New sidewalks for safe routes and better connectivity
  • Boulevards for tree planting, providing shade and environmental benefits
  • Shared travel lane to discourage speeding and shortcutting
  • Parallel parking maintained on both sides
  • Watermain replacement and upgraded water services
  • Stormwater improvements with curb, gutter, and drainage system
  • Project supports neighbourhood growth

Construction Impacts:
Construction activities are anticipated to occur in 2025. Residents, businesses, and others impacted by construction will be provided with notice in advance.
