Each </span><span data-contrast="auto" xml:lang="EN-CA">station </span><span data-contrast="auto" xml:lang="EN-CA">has a full complement of modern, up-to-date vehicles and equipment. \t\t<li>A clear and unobstructed radius of one meter must be maintained around each fire hydrant or standpipe, and it must be possible to clearly view each hydrant or standpipe from the roadway while approaching from either direction</li>\r\n

<p>Those who wish to operate on private land must also follow the following guidelines:</p>\r\n

\t<li>The mobile store use (food services, retail, etc.) must be an allowable one in the zoning category that applies to the property on which the license is applied for.</li>\r\n
\t<li>The following must be provided the following at the time of application for the business licence\r\n
\t<ul>\r\n
\t\t<li>Authorization from the property owner for the applicant to apply for the mobile store business license.</li>\r\n
\t\t<li>A site plan which includes the following:\r\n
\t\t<ul>\r\n
\t\t\t<li>Proposed location of the mobile store on the site</li>\r\n
\t\t\t<li>Duration mobile store is proposed to be on the site, days of operation and hours of operation</li>\r\n
\t\t\t<li>Distance from property lines and buildings of the mobile store</li>\r\n
\t\t</ul>\r\n
\t\t</li>\r\n
\t</ul>\r\n
\t</li>\r\n
\t<li>City Staff will verify the number of parking stalls required by existing uses on the site as per the Zoning Bylaw (there must be adequate parking for existing uses and no additional parking stalls must be required for the mobile store)</li>\r\n

<p><img alt="Okanagan Mountain Park fire" src="/sites/files/1/images/city-services/okanagan_mountain_fire.jpg" style="margin: 1px 7px; width: 450px; height: 275px; float: right;" />The Okanagan Mountain Park fire of August and September 2003 consumed over 25,000 hectares of forest and park land south and east of the city, forcing the evacuation of more than 27,000 people and destroying 239 homes on the southern edges of the city.</p>\r\n

<p>The one-in-a-hundred-year inferno began with a lightning strike on Aug. 16. The firestorm challenged personnel from over 60 fire departments across B.C., over 1,000 forestry fire fighters, contractors and loggers, as well as 1,400 members of the Canadian Armed Forces.</p>\r\n
\r\n
<p>The Regional District of the Central Okanagan’s Emergency Response Plan was put into action and the emergency operations centre (EOC) at the main fire hall on Enterprise Way worked smoothly and efficiently. Inter-agency cooperation was paramount at both the EOC and at incident command.</p>\r\n
\r\n
<h3>Recovery effort</h3>\r\n
\r\n
<p>Our Fire Recovery Team was formed in September 2003 to spearhead community recovery efforts in the wake of the fire’s devastation. The City established a recovery centre office on Bernard Avenue in space donated by RBC Royal Bank, and recovery centre staff helped process all social service requests arising from the fire.</p>\r\n
\r\n
<p>We also established the Kelowna and Area Okanagan Fire Recovery Society to coordinate the recovery effort; working in concert with other agencies and groups, society volunteers helped rebuild lives and the community.</p>\r\n
\r\n
<h3>Trust fund</h3>\r\n
\r\n
<p>The Recovery Society was also charged with administering the Kelowna and Area Okanagan Fire Recovery Trust Fund, created by us to assist in the rebuilding effort. Through the generosity of our community and others across the country, the Society was able to distribute $1,402,000 to those impacted by the fire. The Society’s <a href="https://www.kelowna.ca/sites/files/1/docs/city-services/ok_mountain_park_fire_-_final_report.pdf" target="_blank">final report to Council</a> outlines the distribution of funds. The Society wound up its operations in April 2004, and the recovery centre is now closed.</p>\r\n
